House Direction Finder

Enter a compass degree and identify the corresponding direction. The tool does not ask for exact location or GPS coordinates and does not store user input.

Use a value from 0 to 359.99. Take multiple readings and use the most stable one.

How to Measure Your House or Apartment Direction

  1. Stand inside the main entrance.
  2. Look outward.
  3. Hold the phone or compass level.
  4. Stay away from metal doors, elevators, speakers, electrical panels and magnetic accessories.
  5. Take multiple readings.
  6. Use the most stable reading.

For a deeper method, read How to Check Directions Correctly. This tool only translates a degree into a compass sector. It does not decide whether the full layout is suitable.

The compass rule uses eight sectors. North covers 337.5 through 359.99 and 0 through less than 22.5. Northeast begins at 22.5, east begins at 67.5, southeast begins at 112.5, south begins at 157.5, southwest begins at 202.5, west begins at 247.5 and northwest begins at 292.5. Exact boundary values are placed consistently in the new sector.

Examples of Direction Readings

If the reading is 10 degrees, the tool returns North because the north sector includes 0 through less than 22.5 degrees. If the reading is exactly 22.5 degrees, it returns Northeast. A reading of 90 degrees returns East, 180 degrees returns South, 270 degrees returns West, and 337.5 degrees returns North again. These boundaries keep the result consistent when your reading sits close to a sector line.

In real homes, compass readings can shift because of metal doors, lifts, speakers, electrical panels, vehicles and phone covers with magnets. This is why one reading is not enough. Take several readings, step away from magnetic interference, compare with the floor plan and use the most stable value. If readings vary widely, pause and measure again later rather than forcing a conclusion.

Flat owners should also separate house facing from balcony view. A beautiful balcony may face one direction, but the main entrance reading may be different. Traditional Vastu discussions often begin with the entrance because it shapes arrival and movement. Still, the complete flat matters: kitchen, bedrooms, toilets, daylight, ventilation and maintenance all affect daily comfort.

How to Interpret Results

A result such as 92 degrees = East is simply a facing direction. It should be used calmly with the full floor plan, entrance condition, daylight, ventilation, room placement, safety and daily usability. Do not treat one reading as a guarantee. Apartments often have fixed corridors and shared structures, so small practical improvements may matter more than forcing changes.

What This Tool Does Not Determine

The finder does not check the exact pada of the main door, the position of the kitchen, the bedroom zone, the slope of a plot, or whether a toilet affects a sensitive area. It only identifies the broad facing direction from your entered degree. After that, review the complete home with room-wise guidance and practical checks.

If you are buying property, save the reading along with photos and the floor plan. If you are renting, use the result only as a reference and focus on reversible improvements such as brighter entry lighting, clearer movement and better storage.
